In a recently visited a beautiful place in California called Redwood City where I embarked on a short journey of earthing. It is home to the trees in California that people call “redwoods” and are actually two distinct species. Both of them are best described as the tallest, biggest, most massive, or magnificent trees. And, having experienced them, even those words are an understatement.
I did create a short video while there which I will share below, but before we get there let’s talk for a moment on a spiritual level.
Let’s Talk About Earthing
This process known as earthing and otherwise known as grounding, is about connecting with the earth. It is here, in this connection that you are able to establish balance. Balance in your body and mind, and for us spiritual beings, in our spirits as well.
Earthing, helps us connect with and experience this harmonious feelings. Studies suggest that it is in fact here, that we reconnect with our natural state.
It is here, we can escape from the fast, busy and often hectic lifestyles we lead. Earthing, helps to ground us. Now, this may look different to you and I, but the end result is ultimately the same. We are connected as the root — pun or not — and it allows us to refocus and gain back that control that may have felt absent, or distant.
Earthing is Essential to our Wellbeing
Think of a recent time you felt that you were losing control. And, this doesn’t need to be a time of outrage, trauma or significant loss. This, can be a time that you were unable to finish a project or weren’t making time for your regular meditation or visit to the gym. When practicing a process or rather, the art of earthing, it will help reconnect to those things that mater most.
Some people express that throughout this process they experience great clarity and energy. They are all feelings that are connected deep within us that inspire us to take action.
Would you agree, that when your life feels out of sorts, perhaps you are overly sensitive or irritable that when you look at things as whole it is simply because you’ve lost your footing? That beautiful souls, is okay. Because we know that though things like meditation or journaling and now I am suggesting earthing or grounding, we can place those feet back where they want to be.
In my opinion, everyone can benefit from this practice and I do believe that those on a spiritual path that it should be a priority.
Will you make earthing a priority in your life?
Earthing Energy Defined
Even at it’s most basic level, your energy field operates by allowing Earth energy up through your root chakra, sacral, solar plexus and heart. Through your crown chakra, Universal or Divine energy is able to flow down from above.
When your energy flow is blocked, you’re unable to access the full beauty and power of the healing light available from the Earth,. The goal as we have discussed in past, is learning to unblock that energy flow.
Now, I appreciate not everyone is a hop, skip and a jump from these beautiful Redwoods. And so, I would like to share a few things you can do right, where you are.
Earthing Activities to Implement in your Life
- Gardening outdoors
- Go for a walk (or a run) somewhere in nature if possible
- Spend time by a lake, ocean or other body of water
- Sit outside and focus on being present, bathe in the beauty of the outdoors
- Consider adding foods that are beneficial to earthing or grounding exercises; carrots, olives, berries, coconuts
- Drink plenty of water
- Have an outdoor meditation
- Thank, Mother Earth
Lastly, an Earthing Visualization
The easiest thing to imagine when you are looking to ground yourself are tree roots.
Just imagine that you have great, strong and long roots coming from the base of your feet (which should remain flat on the floor if you are standing during this visualization. Or, from the base of your spine if you are sitting on the floor.
Let these roots go right down into the earth below and let them anchor you. Allow them to ground you on earth.
This is a very quick and efficient technique to remember when releasing energy.
Color can also be quite helpful, deep earthy colours such as red, orange and brown are always good. And similar to the previous exercise, just imagine that this color surrounds you.
You can imagine it as light or a cloak or blanket — whichever you are able to connect to with ease.
